Nolin Lake Crafts and Pens is a premier pen crafting and woodworking business started by wood craftsman Carl W. Suk. Carl is a former United States Air Force medic during the Viet Nam conflict. He is also a horticulturist and botanist, having served as director for several renowned arboreta and park systems in the United States. Most recently, he retired from the US Army Corps of Engineers at Nolin Lake in South Central Kentucky where he was a seasonal Park Ranger. He now devotes his time and energies to turning pens, bowls and other fine woodworking products.
Since 2015, he has been assisted by his business associate and partner Carol B. Drews, who designs and also turns many of the pens & products sold on this website. She's currently working to introduce a line of polymer clay pens and other items. Carol is a former horticulturist who retains her love for the outdoors...which makes Carl and Carol a great team! They are now together in Kentucky, where they explore the native and invasive flora of the 15,000 acre Nolin Lake reserve together when they’re not filling pen orders and getting ready for their next weekend fair.
Nolin Lake Crafts and Pens specializes in unique and interesting gifts and furniture designed to last a lifetime, using only the finest quality materials. We are always trying new things and pushing the limit of creative materials and designs to craft our products. “If you can think of it, we can probably make it!”
While he specializes in pens and pencils, Carl has made everything from corn hole boards to swings, bowls to ice cream scoops, dog houses to bird feeders, all from a variety of different materials. Carol seems to always be looking for something new and 'girlie', and has taken some designs in a new direction of 'bling' as she learns to perfect her craft under Carl's watchful eye.
