Civil War Pen Collection

This set of 3 hand-turned turned pens is fashioned in Antique Brass. From left to right, their hand-turned turned barrels represent the Bonnie Blue Flag, the Battle Flag of Northern Virginia, and the 34 Star Union Flag.

The cap of each pen is a replica of the 58 Caliber “Minnie” or Minie’ ball used in the muzzle-loaders of the era.  Originally a French army bullet, it was officially adopted by the Americans in 1855 and used by both Union and Confederate sides.  Rings were added to the original design to help ease the bullet down the barrel as well as to collect powder residue when fired. First used in the Model 1861 Springfield Rifle Musket.

The pen tip is a replica of the 44 caliber 1860 Colt Army Revolver Bullet, a 6-shot favorite side arm for cavalry, infantry and artillery troops.

The pen’s clip is a replica of the Model 1861 Springfield Rifle Musket, a muzzle-loader favored for it’s range, accuracy and reliability.  It fired the Minie’Ball and had a maximum effective range of 500 yards.

Wand made of Oak Flooring from the Great Hall, Christ Church College, Oxford, England

Complete with its Certificate of Authenticity, this wand will delight anyone interested in the actual wood that came from Christ Church College’s Great Hall in Oxford, England.  This is the same Great Hall that was recreated at the film producer’s studios for use in the production of the Harry Potter films.  Nolin Lake Crafts and Pens does not imply any affiliation or association with Harry Potter, Hogwarts, its producers or author.

Equally interesting are the ties that the Methodist faith has with this historic hall, being the college where John Wesley studied.  There are additional pieces of this oak that can be made into desk sets or individual pens, pencils, magnifying glasses and letter openers for gift giving.
